Description

Please note that some transcripts may contain distressing content. A collection of 60 emergency calls from the US, UK and Australia transcribed in plain text from audio recordings. All the calls are publicly available through online news sources. 30 calls were placed by innocent callers (i.e. witnesses) and 30 by deceptive callers (i.e. the perpetrator pretending to be innocent). The classification as innocent or guilty was based on the most recent court ruling in a case. The 30 innocent calls contain a total of 20.787 words, the deceptive calls contain a total of 17.230 words. Additional files with only the caller's words are also uploaded below. The entire data set is made up of the following call types: 16 callers reporting a murder or suicide, 6 callers reporting someone drowning, 12 callers reporting a missing child, 12 reporting an unresponsive child and 14 reporting an unknown intruder. Any personally identifying information was redacted and replaced by a generic description of the information (e.g. [caller's phone number]). Information on each call and a link to the publicly available audio recording can be found in the uploaded spreadsheet titled "Call Overview".
